Gun Girl Goals – Breaking through the barriers.

A year has passed since my last blog post and my love for clay shooting has certainly not diminished in this time; whether that be talking about it, thinking about it or pulling the trigger! In fact, it’s probably grown stronger! But I didn’t feel I had much more to offer anyone through my writing, until now… People who follow my progress on social media (or know me personally) may have seen that recently I’ve turned a bit of a corner with my approach to shooting, and this has been reflected in competition statistics. I seem to have found some consistency and I’ve had a few ‘successes’. This isn’t by accident; I’ve had to work hard towards my improvements and adapt my approach. But it was actually a rather personal ‘non shooting challenge’ I faced earlier in the year with a huge goal to achieve that has helped me on my way towards this sea change…

‘Guns for Guns’ – Improving my fitness for shooting.

Clay shooting isn’t a sport that many would consider the most physical of pastimes, but I’ve been really surprised with how I’ve become more aware of the state of my health and fitness through wanting to improve and progress in shooting. I’ve started to understand how, alongside my mental approach, my physical well-being can have a huge influence on my shooting ability, endurance and stamina...

Stuck in a rut – The highs and lows of Clay Shooting.

t’s been a while since I last wrote a blog and there’s two reasons for my quiet period on the Gun Girl UK front. Firstly, since the beginning of the year I have been incredibly busy in my personal life and I’ve found there’s been a severe lack of time to sit down and write. But secondly, and the real reason if I’m being totally honest is that I’ve been putting this blog off because I’ve reached that dreaded period that every clay shooter will know; feeling ‘stuck in a rut.’

Braving the ‘Bun Club’ – My love of ladies shooting.

My stomach was churning, my mouth was dry, and a billion thoughts ran through my head as I tried to concentrate on the road in front of me, recalling the journey I’d studied on Google Maps but had never actually driven before. I was on my way to my first ever event with The Shotgun and Chelsea Bun Club, driving to a shooting ground I’d never been to before and I was a complete bag of nerves...

2017 – My shooting in a snapshot!

All of my life I've been told I've got a very expressive face and this has deemed to be true whilst I'm shooting! 2017 has been an awesome year for getting out with my gun...I've learnt a lot, visited many shooting grounds and been lucky to fire off a fair few cartridges, usually with a smile! Check out the film footage from my YouTube channel that shows just some of my shooting this year...

‘Kit List’-Shooting Essentials

Whether you like to shoot 50 clays once a month, or 100 every week it’s important to have the correct equipment when you are out shooting. The type of kit you invest in will probably depend on both your budget and how regularly you want to shoot. When I first started learning to shoot I wasn’t sure how often I would be able to get out with my gun, and so I wasn’t very keen on spending a lot of money. As I have progressed and grown to love the sport I have found myself investing in my kit. In this blog post I’ll run through some of the items that I have bought over the years, and discuss a few essentials...

Superb Shooting Grounds

As I have developed as a shooter and wanted to experience different targets, I have been fortunate to be able to visit a fair few shooting grounds. These have been mostly across the South West and the Midlands but one or two have been a little further afield. Here’s a brief overview of some superb grounds and shooting schools...

CPSA Competitions – Part 2 – I’m ready to shoot my first registered competition, what do I do?

July 1st 2015. It was the hottest day of the year so far, and I was a complete bag of nerves. We pulled up into the car park at Ian Coley’s Shooting School and I reminded myself ‘it really doesn’t matter about the score, just try to enjoy it. Be safe, be polite and try to emulate anything you see that works for others’. This was my first registered CPSA competition, and although I’d only picked up a shotgun for the first time less than 2 years earlier, I was determined to try the ‘registered scene’ out...
